Thanks to the onset of job portals in early 2000’s – recruitment became the game of ‘fastest finger first’.
Sourcing candidates has become an act of matching keywords. Recruiters have become HR clerks. They get the JD from the line manager, post it on a few portals, pick up a few keywords from the JD and go to a job portal to search for the CVs which have words matching with the keywords. Once they find a bunch of matching CVs, they click a few buttons to send out messages to all of them checking interest in the job opportunity. Whichever candidate shows interest first, stands first in the queue for the job!
AI can replace the recruiters who are carrying out the steps above. We are looking for recruiters who are capable of doing the real work of recruitment – attracting talent, picking out the best-matching candidates from that pool and hand-holding the person through the transition from the previous employer to the new one.
Unless we leverage AI, real work of recruitment won’t start!
